Introduction
Since 2005, CEISEE (the China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education) has already held twenty-first times in China and Europe, and CEISEE has become one of the excellent platforms for the attendees from educational institutes, software industry and educational authorities across Europe and China to exchange their visions and wisdom, to share their experience, and to discuss their approaches for the industry-oriented software education. Over the years, CEISEE has attracted more than 2,000 scholars from 27 countries and regions, gaining widespread recognition and influence. Through more exchanges, China and the Europe can further strengthen cooperation in software education, IT industry and talent cultivation, to face today’s environment of new changes, new technology, new economy, and new features.
The 22nd China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE 2026) will be held in Cork, Ireland during August 27 to 28, 2026. The conference is organized by University College Cork, Ireland, and co-organized by Harbin Institute of Technology, China. The conference is supported by China University Teaching Steering Committee on Software Engineering, Pilot Software School Alliance, China Chinese University MOOC Association on Computer Education, and Journal of Computer Education, China.
The theme of the CEISEE 2026 is "AI Empowered Education and Smart MOOCs”, focusing on software engineering education and applications in AI era. Against the backdrop of the digital transformation of global education, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and massive open online courses (MOOCs) has given rise to smart MOOCs - a new form of education that breaks through the limitations of traditional MOOCs in personalized teaching, resource allocation, and learning effect evaluation. The core connotations, technical architectures, application scenarios, and development challenges of AI-empowered education and smart MOOCs have become hot topics. This conference aims to explore the new approaches for AI empowered software engineering education, including new software engineering related programs and curriculum, cross-disciplinary education, cooperation between universities and industry, smart MOOCs and e-learning, smart metaverse education, digital transformation of education, innovative entrepreneurship practice, international cooperation on education, and other relevant topics. The scope of this conference ranges from knowledge body and curriculum to the industry-university collaboration, to make the symposium more valuable and inspiring to the community of software engineering education and IT professional cultivation. We invite experts, educators, engineers, and managers in the field of software education, academia, and industry to contribute and participate in the conference.
CEISEE 2026 will mainly focus on, but not be limited to, the following suggested topics:
- Development trends of software engineering and education
- Requirements & cultivation of high-quality software engineers in AI era
- New forms and models of software engineering education in AI era
